December 2020. The «English-Russian-Kyrgyz glossary of disaster risk reduction» developed with the assistance of EPCA-Kyrgyzstan project team (OshSU) has been published and also available for free download and online view.

The glossary was published by the Crisis Management Center under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic (MES KR) with the support of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), EPCA-Kyrgyzstan project team (Osh State University) and the assistance of the Training, Scientific and Technical Center "Development of Civil Protection" of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after Boris N. Yeltsin (KRSU) and the Ministry of Emergencies of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Kyrgyz Republic like in many post-soviet countries is still mainly based on the old paradigm of risk and its terminology which is, in some cases, not consistent with international terms and definitions. This collection of the main body of disaster risk reduction terms used internationally with their definitions and meanings in three languages could help specialists, students, and researchers who work in Russian and Kyrgyz languages better understand the meaning of important DRR processes. This could, in turn, help to promote a better understanding of risk and effective DRR measures for improving resilience and supporting sustainable development initiatives.

The glossary has been approved by the government (Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic) and adopted for use in the national disaster risk reduction system.
