Coordination and management

Coordination and management

Tasks

– Coordination of the project (overall/detailed planning, receiving/merging/distributing reports, resolving challenges, communication with the steering committee/course development groups/regional coordinator/overall manager/EU/LU, communication with sub-contracted person/company, etc.).
– Financial management of the project
– Distribution of funds.
– Conflict management.
-Auditing and reporting (finalizing the project).

Description

Lund University is the coordinating institute of the project. Decisions related to the management of the project are taken in a democratic way by Steering Committee, which is led by the coordinator of the project (Ali Mansourian) and the representatives of the partner and participant universities. The Steering Committee has regular meetings in the partner countries. If needed extra meetings are held through Skype. A core management group (Ali Mansourian, Petter Pilesjo, Muzaffar Matchanov, and Damira Tilenova) is in charge of following up the implementation of the decisions made by the steering committee as well as quality control of the project. A regional coordinator from UrSU (Muzaffar Matchanov) facilitates required arrangements in Central Asia. His role also facilitates better cooperation between the European and non-European partners. All partners have equal responsibility in the financial management of the project including spending the budget according to the proposal and reporting to Lund University. A financial manager has been by Lund University for the project to advice, monitor, and summarize financial-related activities in the project.

Related assumptions and risks

– A project coordinator is needed for the coordination.
– A steering committee, chaired by project coordinator, guarantees the democracy in decision-making and project management.
– An overall manager is responsible for financial operations and distribution of funds according to the budget, also responsible for all organizational and logistic matters.
– In some cases, a regional coordinator from partner universities can perform overall management, communication, reporting, and organizational arrangements in CA more efficiently than a European person.
Risks:
– Conflicts during the project. In case, the project coordinator will negotiate and settle the conflict.
